Hi. I don't imagine too many local people will visit Bigmouthery the next few days, but if you do and you need info, here's a list of good places to go:
Live streaming radio updates: 612 ABC Brisbane (612 on the AM band)
Flood updates, warnings and appeals for assistance: Qld Police Service Facebook Page
Bureau of Meteorology: Queensland Warnings and SEQ Radar
SES: phone 132 500 or check their website
Energex: 13 19 62 for emergencies only! A half-cooked lunch is not an emergency. Power outage info.
Traffic & road closures: site currently showing low bandwidth due to high congestion
It's important to be aware that passing on information based on hearsay e.g. Facebook re-postings can cause havoc with emergency services and communications. This happened last night with issues around sandbagging assistance and today it's messing up the RSPCA. It is best to stay tuned to the ABC and the Queensland Police Service Facebook page as they are providing up-to-the-minute coverage of the floods as they unfold.
The Brisbane City Council website is, at the time of writing (1100 AEST, Jan 12, 2011), subject to congestion and has been crashing.
There are two major evacuation points, at the RNA Showgrounds and QEII Stadium.
Details on further evac points are pending, but stay tuned to the radio and the official sites for further info.
On a personal note, we're doing okay here. My suburb has experienced some pretty substantial flooding but I'm on high ground so unless it pisses down, we should be okay. It was very odd to wake to sunshine this morning, knowing the worst of the flood appears yet to come.
If you are in need of accommodation or storage, leave a comment below or at my Facebook page. If we can get to you safely without causing further problems to emergency services, we will.
PS: 000 is for LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCIES! Moving your stereo is not a life-threatening emergency!
